I am a Dane so obviously I hang out a lot amongst other Danes that live in Jakarta and around. We got our own golf club, we got our own soccer team and we also have our own balut branch (a dice game).
In all of the activities above there are other nationalities involved as well – mainly Westerners, but the Danes have the most participants.
We also have a Nordic Club, which is more a family type of club where we try to keep home traditions like mid-summer parties, Christmas parties and other activities revolving around families.
We have a Danish Business Association that typically arrange events every second month where we dine and socialize. At these arrangements, we have a speaker that will talk about topics like Asian financial climate, CSR, global warming, logistics in Indonesia, labor laws etc.
DBA try to find topics that are relevant and exciting for the participants at these meetings. Again half the participants at these meetings are Danish the rest is from other countries. This also creates an international atmosphere.
We have bars where typically expats hang out, drink, talk, play pool, darts, play music – basically like walking into a bar back home except for the fact that the crowd is more international.
Needless to mention that if you like after work activities and like to do sports and socialize the options are almost endless here.
